The process to become a Firefighter with the Broken Arrow Fire Department is described below. For those who meet the eligibility requirements, your first step is to complete your online application.

  • Written Examination – All qualified candidates will be notified where to login for their online written examination. Candidates who make it past the online written exam will be notified of their next step.
  • CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) – Directly following a successful written examination, candidates will be given a CPAT orientation and an overview of the 8-week CPAT testing process.  Candidates must complete the CPAT in 10 minutes and 20 seconds or less for a passing score. Successful candidates who pass the CPAT and their virtual online interview questions will be invited to a panel interview.
  • Panel Interview – A diverse group from within the ranks of the Fire Department comprise the panel.
  • Fire Chief Interview – Reserved for those who achieve a qualifying panel interview score and pass a background investigation.

The most exceptional individuals may be offered the opportunity to participate in the Broken Arrow Fire Department Cadet Academy.

The Cadet Academy consists of 23 rigorous weeks of training in all aspects of the modern fire service. Before the conclusion of the Academy the cadet will have attained many certifications to include Firefighter I & II, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, Rope Rescue Technician, Confined Space Technician, just to name a few. In addition to those fire suppression and technical rescue disciplines, all cadets will thoroughly review our EMS protocols, BLS and ACLS, and practice these life-saving skills through numerous scenario based training evolutions.

High standards must be met both academically and physically, and those who find success in the Cadet Academy are highly motivated, disciplined individuals. Eligibility Requirements

A driver’s license is required to be eligible for the test. Also, you must have no convictions of a felony or crime of moral turpitude. Must have no more than 3 moving violations, or 1 at fault accident and 2 moving violations within the past 5 years. Must have no convictions of a DUI, reckless driving or similar violation in the past 7 years.

  • 18-45 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent starting salary and benefit program
  • Must possess an NREMT certification and be eligible for an Oklahoma EMS license, prior to receiving a conditional offer of employment
  • Base salary while in the academy: $58,633.05

Salaries below are contingent upon completing probationary year and EMT or Paramedic licensure.

  • Base salary for Firefighter/EMT: $71,592.30
  • Base salary for Firefighter/Paramedic: $82,868.74
  • Incentives available in addition to base salary
  • Tuition reimbursement available after one year of employment
