At the Aspen and Jasper intersection in south Broken Arrow, Paragon Contractors are almost finished with phase one of this three-phase project. They’re currently paving the southeast corner with concrete. Next, they’ll add asphalt up to the concrete, then pave the center section.
A mile down the road at the Aspen and Tucson intersection, Diversified Contractors have almost finished their work. The only remaining task is to install a signal pole on the southwest corner, which is scheduled to arrive in September.
Once the Aspen intersections are finished, expected in late September, work will begin to widen the one-mile stretch of Aspen Avenue between Jasper and Tucson. On Aug. 3, the City Council approved a $4.7 million contract with Cherokee Pride Construction to widen Aspen Avenue to five lanes.
The project will add a new sidewalk, driveway returns, storm sewer, waterline, signage, and striping. The contract timeline for the widening project is 10 months.
Now, over to Houston Street, two transportation projects are underway.
The first project is on Houston Street between Aspen and Olive avenues. Becco Contractors started at the west end, removing the old storm sewers and installing new pipes. They’ve had to remove driveways and business and subdivision entrances on the north side, but as they lay the new pipes, they’re replacing those driveways and entrances with new concrete.
Further east on Houston Street, from County Line Road to Old Highway 51, crews are continuing to widen this half-mile stretch, which also includes new waterlines and stormwater sewer improvements. They are also continuing roadway construction. Now that the box culvert is in place, they have only a small portion of the storm sewer system left to finish.
Next, at the Lynn Lane and Washington intersection project, the crew plans to finish the concrete in the southeast section early this week. After that, they’ll start laying asphalt.
As the Kenosha Street Sidewalk Project wraps up, our pedestrians now have sidewalk access to shopping, restaurants, businesses, and more from Aspen Avenue to Elm Place.
Most of the new sidewalk runs along the south side of Kenosha Street, from the Union Pacific Railroad Crossing to the Ninowski Recreation Center and Rhema Bible Church. The project includes 2,000 square yards of new sidewalk and ADA ramps. We’re happy to report it’s almost finished—just a few punch list items remain for the contractor to complete.
