Highlights of 6/1 City Council meeting

More than 70 items were on the meeting agendas of the Broken Arrow City Council, Municipal Authority, and Economic Development Authority on Monday night. Due to the Tuesdays in the Park concert series in June, the two regular meetings this month are on Monday. Here are highlights from the June 1 meeting.

The proposed municipal budget for fiscal year 2027 was presented to Councilors and a public hearing was held for public comment. The proposed budget is available on the city website with possible adoption during the public meeting on June 15.

A preview of an ordinance amendment to create a No-Knock List registry of addresses in which residents can voluntarily participate was heard by Council. The amendment was set for adoption at a future Council meeting.

A time capsule will be buried in Veterans Park on June 30 as part of the celebration of America’s 250th birthday. The time capsule will be opened in 25 years.

City Councilors approved the fifth renewal of a behavioral health services agreement that includes counseling, training, and consultation for Broken Arrow Fire Department employees.

Two professional consultant agreements for residential street rehabilitation projects were approved.

Professional Engineering Consultants will design the improvements for the Indian Springs Estates 4th Addition Subdivision Residential Streets Concrete Panel Replacement project. The agreement costs $97,500 and will be paid for with the Street Sales Tax Fund.
Walter P. Moore and Associates will design the improvements for the Swanda Acres Subdivision Residential Streets Concrete Panel Replacement project. The agreement costs $64,500 and will be paid for with 2018 General Obligation Bond Proposition 1 funds.

The Wedgewood Residential Streets Concrete Panel Replacement project has come in under budget, so additional street repairs in the neighborhood have been added to the contract.

Main Street, from the railroad tracks south to Washington Street will undergo rehabilitation in fiscal year 2027. When the resurfacing of the street is complete, Advanced Workzone Services has been contracted to reapply white and yellow pavement markings.

Councilor Lisa Ford was recognized for her 25 years of service to the city as both an employee and in the last five years as City Councilor.

Acting in their role as trustees of the Municipal Authority, the purchase of 4.5 acres of land for the future location for a potential water storage tank site was approved. The property will be purchased from Oklahoma Turnpike Authority for $189,100.

The trustees were notified of the rate increase Waste Management landfill charges customers to dispose of refuse and wastewater treatment plant sludge. Following the trustees’ approval, the Municipal Authority will be charged the following rates beginning July 1, 2026.

The refuse tipping fee rate per ton will increase from $27.81 to $29.17.
The sludge tipping fee rate per ton will increase from $36.34 to $38.11.
Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality imposes a fee of $1.25 per ton in addition to the rate for sludge disposal.
