Broken Arrow in Motion May 2026

Post Date:05/14/2026 3:30 p.m.

Broken Arrow is rolling forward and making progress on several essential transportation projects throughout the community. Here’s an update on what’s happening this month.

First, there are two widening projects on Houston Street, also known as 81st Street.  One project is expanding Houston Street from three to five lanes between Olive Avenue and Aspen Avenue. This month, the crew installed new storm sewer pipes. And now they are replacing the last two storm inlets and finishing the curb and gutter. Next, they will lay the asphalt and sod on the south side of the road. Then, in a couple of weeks, the work will move to the north side of Houston Street.

The other widening project on Houston Street, is between Lynn Lane and Old Highway 51, and it is underway as well. Like the previous project, this section is also being widened from three to five lanes. The new water line has been installed, and crews are now connecting it to the city’s system and upgrading the storm sewers. A temporary widening on the south side allows drivers to keep using the road during construction.

Next, there are two projects underway on Washington Street, also known as 91st Street.

The Washington Street Reclaiming Project east of Lynn Lane is nearing completion. The road base has been stabilized with cement and asphalt. Crews are rebuilding driveways to match the new road height, increasing storm drain capacity, and regrading ditches for better drainage. Driveway and grading work should finish in about three weeks, and road striping will follow in two to three weeks, weather permitting.

At Washington Street and Lynn Lane (9th St.), left turns are still not permitted at the intersection. The crews are working on the northeast corner. Once complete, this project will expand the intersection to five lanes in each direction, with two through lanes and a left-turn lane on each side. Traffic is using a temporary road, and concrete work will start this week. A new storm sewer pipe is being installed on the northeast side, and temporary lighting is in place. When finished, the project will include new sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps.

And work has also begun on two new HAWK Beacon signals to help pedestrians cross the trail system safely. Concrete work on Elm is finished, and it’s about halfway done on Washington Street. The new signals will be installed when they arrive later this summer. These are the first two of three new HAWK Beacons planned for Broken Arrow.
