On Monday, March 30, the City of Broken Arrow will host a groundbreaking ceremony to announce the start of construction for Fire Station No. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Broken Arrow Police and Fire Training Center, 4205 E. Omaha St., west of the Broken Arrow Animal Shelter.
“Thank you, Broken Arrow, for supporting the 2018 General Obligation Bond package, which made this new Fire Station in northeast Broken Arrow possible,” said Mayor Debra Wimpee. “As our community grows, Station No. 8 will be an invaluable asset in our mission to safeguard our community. BAFD is dedicated to protecting residents and ensuring Broken Arrow is a safe place to live and work. As a city, we endeavor to provide our emergency services personnel with great facilities, top-notch equipment, and innovative training as they work to protect our community.”
Station No. 8 will be located on the city’s north side to enhance emergency response in a rapidly growing area. Myers-Cherry Construction of Broken Arrow will manage the $6 million project, reflecting the City’s commitment to public safety and continued growth.
“Promises made, promises kept! The City of Broken Arrow and our residents prioritize public safety, as demonstrated by the strong 71 percent approval of Proposition 2 in 2018. Voters authorized $20.35 million for public safety improvements, including Fire Station No. 8,” said City Manager Michael Spurgeon. “As residents prepare to vote again on April 7, we are seeking support for $56 million in public safety funding through Proposition 2 to enable additional life-saving projects like this one.”
Fire Station No. 8 will be over 11,000 square feet and will include four apparatus bays, two captain’s quarters, eight bunk rooms, and a fitness area. Once complete, it will house an engine company, an ambulance, and a brush truck, further enhancing the department’s service to the community.
“We are thrilled to begin construction on this much needed fire station,” said Fire Chief Jeremy Moore. “In 2016, the Broken Arrow Fire Department adopted a plan to build three new stations in the most advantageous locations in our community. Those locations were selected to minimize the fire department’s response times for our citizens. With the construction of this final station from the plan, we fulfill the promise made to our citizens. Constructing three stations in 10 years continues to show the city’s commitment to public safety. We’re so grateful to the City Manager, the City Council, and the citizens for their continued support.”
