A 2018 General Obligation Bond project in the Brentwood subdivision, located near the southwest corner of Washington Street and Aspen Avenue, will soon positively impact the residents living there.
“This project involves the replacement of concrete panels in Brentwood,” stated Director of Streets and Stormwater Tim Wilson. “The contractor will be replacing the curbs and gutters, drain inlets, and several driveway approaches.”
Specifically, the project entails the removal and rehabilitation of approximately 12,000 square yards of concrete roadway panels, as well as miscellaneous concrete work, including sidewalks, curbs, sewer lines, and ADA ramps. The total cost for this project is $1.9 million and paid for with 2018 GO Bond funds.
“We have an upcoming General Obligation Bond that’s going to go before the voters next year in 2026,” Wilson said. “We encourage voters to get out [and vote] because you vote for projects like this, and this is what makes this happen.”
The City of Broken Arrow hired an outside consultant to evaluate every road in the City. They rated each road within Broken Arrow city limits to determine its Pavement Condition Index (PCI) score, which helps the City scientifically prioritize road improvements based on the greatest need.
The average Pavement Condition Index score for the Brentwood subdivision was in the low 40s, indicating that it fell into the “very poor” category.
Wilson says smooth streets will be the end result of this project.
“That’s our goal on any project, to provide a product and a driving surface to last 40 years,” he said.
Wilson also expressed his appreciation for the patience and understanding shown by residents throughout the construction process.
“I know parking in the driveway instead of the streets and having construction at the end of your driveway or in your driveway is an inconvenience,” he said. “And we appreciate their patience throughout the seven-to-eight-month process.”
