Door to door sales, what to know

Post Date:05/16/2025 12:44 p.m.

The City of Broken Arrow receives many complaints from residents about unwanted solicitations at their homes this time of year. If a solicitor has applied for and obtained a permit from the City of Broken Arrow, they are legally allowed to work within the community.

However, you have options if you don’t want someone trying to sell you something at your front door.

1. We suggest you put up a “No Trespassing” or “No Solicitation” sign where it is clearly visible on your property.  Solicitors are also required to obey your verbal command to leave your property.

2. If they ignore your sign or verbal command to leave your premises and attempt to solicit you on your personal property, please call the Broken Arrow Police Department at 918-259-8400 to report and file a trespassing complaint.

3. BAPD cannot issue a trespassing citation for your property without your assistance.

Door-to-door solicitors are required to have a city-issued permit, which must be readily available when you ask to see it. If the permit isn’t produced when asked, you may call the BAPD non-emergency number listed above.

It's important to note that BAPD officers cannot remove solicitors simply for walking the public neighborhood streets and sidewalks, as it is not against any local, state, or federal laws. They have a right to be there so long as they are not intruding on your rights as a private property owner or resident.
