The Broken Arrow Animal Shelter is located at 3420 North 41st Street in Broken Arrow – approximately 1 and ¼ mile east of County Line Road (193rd E. Ave.) on Omaha (51st Street).  The Shelter is open to the public six days a week, Monday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and is closed on Sundays and City holidays.

The Shelter has twenty (20) dog runs, eight (8) quarantine pens, seven (7) puppy pens, twenty-five (25) cat pens, as well as stalls to house larger animals.

The shelter also has twenty-two (22) cat traps, five (5) skunk traps, and two (2) dog traps, available for loan to citizens of Broken Arrow for a fifty-dollar ($50.00) deposit, refundable upon trap return.

Shelter procedures require that stray animals be kept for a minimum of five (5) days before they are eligible for adoption. However, animals that are given to the Shelter are eligible for adoption immediately. The only adoption "fee" is a fifty-dollar ($50.00) deposit for sterilization. That deposit is refundable as soon as proof of sterilization is presented to the Finance Department  -- either that the procedure was performed by a veterinarian of the new owner's choice, or documentation from the veterinarian that the animal had already been spayed or neutered. If the Shelter is aware that the animal has already been sterilized, there is no adoption fee.

The Animal Shelter is operated under the control of the Broken Arrow Police Department. The Shelter staff consists of the Shelter Supervisor, one Administrative Technician, three Animal Control Officers and one Animal Shelter Officer.

The Animal Control Officers are charged with the responsibility of enforcing local animal ordinances, as well as city and state animal related laws. One Animal Control Officer is on City streets from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. In addition, one of our Animal Control Officer is on-call to respond to after-hour calls (seriously injured animals requiring immediate medical attention, or animals that have been involved in a third-party bite situation only).

The Animal Shelter Officer is responsible for the daily cleaning of the dog kennels and cat cages, as well as the care and feeding of the animals.

The Administrative Technician is responsible for the clerical operations at the Shelter and working with local adoption agencies in an effort to find good homes for as many healthy, adoptable animals as is possible.

The Shelter Supervisor is responsible for the enforcement of City Ordinances relating to the care and control of animals both in the Animal Shelter, and throughout the community, the supervision and support of Shelter staff, and coordinating animal control related criminal investigations.
