The Broken Arrow Police Department will begin focused enforcement patrols in and around school sites and school zones within the City of Broken Arrow as the 2017-2018 school year begins. Zero tolerance enforcement will be implemented in these areas as children return to school for another year. Please be mindful of pedestrians, bicyclists, buses, bus stops and other vehicles as you commute to and from your destinations.
The new school year begins Thursday, Aug. 17 for Broken Arrow Public Schools and Tuesday, Aug. 22 for Union Public Schools. Enforcement patrols will begin on the first day of school and continue throughout the school year. Congestion at some area schools can be expected during peak times in the morning and afternoon. If you do not have children attending these sites, please consider an alternate route to your destination.
As Broken Arrow continues to grow; more vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists and children can be expected on the roadways and sidewalks. Because of this, BAPD encourages parents to allow students to ride the bus if a route is available in their residential area.
The most valuable and precious assets in our society are the children within our communities. We ask that everyone leave a little earlier to avoid rushing and pay extra attention to walking children and bicyclists near the roadways to protect those that mean so much to all of us.
